Russian politicians have decided to establish a new adoption ban law against American adoptions and families. Currently this change is only affecting 46 American familes/couples and according to statistics 60.000 Russian orphans have found new familes in the US.
Put those in relation to the well renowned Korean adoption system which initially was seen as a way to help Korean orphans and mixed race children to find homes and families. Korean adoption had its peak period in the middle 1980s and is now nearing it’s 60th year or so.
And don’t forget that this adoption ban is a response to the Magnitsky Act which includes targeted sanctions on Russian officials that have been claimed to have violated human rights and impose Visa bans and asset freezes.
