Earlier today it was announced that 박근혜 Park Geun Hye had defeated her rival Moon Jae In. She will be the third female ruler of South Korea ever. I used to believe that female empowerment was a good thing… This time I’m not so sure.
Park Geun Hye was the chairwomen of the Conservative Grand National Party between 2004 and 2006. She is also one of the members of the Korean National Assembly. She’s certainly not new to politics with a former president as father Park Chung Hee (he was president of South Korea from 1963 – 1979.)
Apparently her slogan was
to unify two separated societies
and she’s seems to have more liberal approch towards North Korea yet seems to be supportive of Obama.
What about the rival, Moon Ja In ? Moon Jae In was the representative of Democratic United and one of his election pledges was to start adjusting the previous KORUS FTA which is foreign trade agreement between Korea and the US. This has been a surprise too many as this foreign trade agreement has become more and more popular recently.
As a KAD I do wonder which one out of these two that would be the most open to adoption laws and protections, civil rights and so on.
